Fred Tomaselli, Resident Artist Lecture 2000

Fred Tomaselli talks about his introduction to art as a child, his training in art school as a painter, and his movement away from painting into installation, followed by a return to painting. He shows numerous examples of his work (pieces are identified by titles), explaining the materials used and the thinking behind each one. His use of drugs (pills) and psychedelic plants in his work generates a number of questions which draw out an explanation of his sources for, potential legal difficulties because of, and philosophical ideas expressed by the incorporation of these substances, which are encapsulated in tamper-proof resin, in his paintings.
