Francesco Clemente, Resident Artist Lecture 1983, Part II

Francesco Clemente gives a lecture talking about his painting and drawing practice. Clemente also shows slides of his frescoes, and talks about the process of making frescos and how it has informed his artistic practice, whether it is mixing lime and sand to create surfaces or studying the history of fresco itself. Clemente doesn’t think of his work in a chronological manner, but rather many works existing simultaneously. Clemente says that this process allows him to think through images, and that the only way to escape through pain is by thinking.
