Abstract

African-American artist Emma Amos discusses works by previous participants of Skowhegan, several famous 20th century painters, and her own painting and fiber arts. Amos focuses on the racially discriminatory politics of the art world; the common practice of limiting museum and gallery shows to artists of one ethnicity and strategies for addressing that problem; her early involvement with feminist organizations; and the African American art collective, Spiral.
