Edwin Gamble, Visiting Artist Lecture 1977
Abstract
Edwin Gamble gives a lecture at Skowhegan talking about his artistic practice which spans drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and installation. Gamble talks about the impact Skowhegan had on him when he was a participant in the 1950s, and how it pushed him to explore sculpture in his work. Some of the themes he explores in his work are ornithology, landscape, the environment and materiality. Gamble also engages with sound to record noises of birds and loons which he adds to his sculptures, which allows him to incorporate a sense of touch in his sculptures. Gamble utilizes a wide range of materials in his sculptures including gold, fibreglass, copper, bronze, and wood to name a few. Gamble tells the participants the importance for building a community, so artists can constantly learn from one another. 41 minutes
