Don Nice, Visiting Artist Lecture 1975

Don Nice gives a lecture at Skowhegan showing a series of slides that depict his paintings and watercolours from 1959-1975. Nice goes into detail about his process which explores his usage of selecting an object, placing the object at a close range, making an observational drawing and then painting that composition. Nice mentions how this way of working allows him to make forms in a certain way, develop a consciousness of the shapes he uses, and reaffirm for him an interest in his subject matter. Nice ends his lecture telling the participants of creating certain problems for themselves which can teach them how to move through those problems.
