Dave McKenzie, Resident Artist Lecture 2017
Abstract
Artist Dave McKenzie gives a lecture speaking about his performances, sculptures, and installations. Throughout the lecture. McKenzie also talks about the impact being a Skowhegan participant had on him in 2000, showing a piece he made during that time and how it has become meaningful for him. McKenzie also talks about his body as a tool for language, and how making a work of art is akin to the process of surviving and negotiating. This thought process has allowed Dave to understand the necessary importance of not taking being an artist for granted. As the lecture continues, McKenzie also reflects on the relationships between visibility and hyper visibility, appearing and disappearing, and how developing a writing practice has allowed him to think about the similarities it has with his drawing practice.
