Daniel Bozhkov, Fresco Lecture 2006

Abstract

Daniel Bozhkov gives a lecture talking about his interdisciplinary practice where he blends different mediums together that spans fresco, drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, video, performance and installation. Throughout the lecture, Bozkhov shows a series of slides and video clips that explore his intense research based practice from which he creates a wide range of projects that are often done both individually and collaboratively. Bozkohv’s research manifests in many different ways, touching upon themes that range from but are not limited too; art history, science, mythology, history, ecology, labor, and memory. Bozkhov also talks in detail about his pedagogical practice which ranges from teaching art history throughout universities but also his many years of teaching fresco at Skowhegan as well. Bozkhov informs the participants how dealing with the unknown and being present has given him the endurance of working on his social practice projects and develop relationships with the people he is interested in collaborating with. Bozkhov sees the camera as a story telling device, for it allows him a level of uncertainty with how the trajectory of the work may play out. Working with the camera has also allowed Bozkhov to question forms of authority whether it is capitalism, globalization and the media.
