Carrie Mae Weems, Resident Artist Lecture 2000

Artist Carrie Weems opens this lecture with slides of other contemporary artists who have inspired her, most often indirectly, and goes on to talk about a wealth of issues that interest her as an artist: representation and identity, gender and man/woman relations, race and racism, myth and folklore, history, cultural inheritance, time, what it means to be human, appropriation, and the artist’s voice. The examples of work shown include a photography, sculpture, banners, written text, and sound. The lecture is enriched by many personal anecdotes.
