Byron Kim, Resident Artist Lecture 1999
Abstract
Artist Byron Kim reads comments by the general public from the comment book at the Whitney Museum of American Art gallery located in the lobby of Philip Morris headquarters. He then proceeds to show samples of his early work interspersed with work by other Minimalist and Conceptual artists, leading up to his skin paintings and other color-related pieces. He declares himself a copyist (because he copies color), process-oriented, working from observation or memory, and concerned with subject matter that is too large to get a grip on (abstraction, beauty) while dealing with content that is very small. The recording is incomplete.
