Fade: The Art of Aging

In this intimate lecture titled Fade: The Art of Aging, artist Betye Saar reflects on the long lasting trajectory of her practice as an artist working in many mediums. Throughout a series of slides, Saar talks about the many themes that she has continued to reflect on over the decades: race and identity, autobiography, afro-voodooism, mysticism, found material, ritual, among others. Saar also reflects on one particular project that has meant a lot to her: working with the material of handkerchiefs and turning them into works of art that have honoured the women who have passed in her family.
