Berenice Abbott, Visiting Artist Lecture 1986

Photographer Berenice Abbott compares photography to painting as an art medium and offers insights into concerns and skills for the photographer. This is followed by a showing of her famous photographs of New York City, ones illustrating scientific principles, and still life and landscape pictures, all accompanied by commentary on the photographic challenges and techniques used to get the shots. During the question and answer section she talks about Cartier Bresson, what she sees for the future of camera technology, working with Man Ray, photographing James Joyce, people as one of her favorite subjects to photograph, Stieglitz, and a number of other notable photographers, mostly women.
