Noted African American scholar bell hooks reads extensive fragments (with numerous additional remarks and asides) from two of her essays, one called “Art on My Mind,” which deals with her early experience of thinking about being an artist in a Black family and culture which did not see that as an option in terms of being a way to make a living; and the other one, which is not mentioned by title, concerned with two films, “The Bodyguard” and “The Crying Game,” and the complexities of gender and race relations embodied in them.
