Barbara Zucker, Resident Artist Lecture 1987

Barbara Zucker breaks her artist lecture into three sections: she shows slides of her works, recites a reading, and then has a conversation about her work with the participants and faculty. Zucker tells the participants the importance of life drawing in her practice, and also talks about her sculpture practice. For Zucker, she is always aware of the assumptions people make around taking materials for granted when making Sculpture, and how Zucker herself is constantly questioning these things. Zucker sees living with sculpture more difficult than living with painting because sculpture can be misunderstood. Zucker uses this knowledge as an entry point to explore the ground plane and relation to the ground plane in her sculptural practice.
