Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook, Visiting Artist Lecture 2016

In this lecture, interdisciplinary artist Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook speaks to Chanon (Kenji) Praepipatmongkol about her practice making sculptures, drawings, working with printmaking, and writing. For Araya, the most important part of her work is language. Araya relies on language, and the abstract feeling it creates to make her work. For Araya, printmaking has been a medium she has returned too, for the unpredictable nature of it has taught her to become comfortable in the ambiguity of her work. Araya also speaks about the writing practice she has developed as an artist, writing for weekly newspapers and bi-monthly magazines. Araya comments on her artistic practice being a tool to confront questions of femininity and the role women play in society today. Finally, Araya says that being an artist is about realizing that loneliness isn’t about being estranged, but that it has to do with the path she has chosen.
