Annette Schindler, Guest Lecture 2005

Annette Schindler gives a lecture at Skowhegan exploring her practice as a curator, writer, and artist. Schindler talks about the importance she feels in creating public programming to engage different audiences in art viewing, specifically media art. Schindler also talks in length about Plug In, the organization she runs to create programming, events, exhibitions and gatherings for artists. Schindler then mentions her sabbatical project which explores issues of copyright laws and intellectual property rights. This work allows Schindler to create possibilities of agency and activism in digital worlds. Schindler ends her lecture by talking about how this current sabbatical project has allowed her to have conversations with lawyers to talk about copyright and property law and how it can protect the interests of artists, cultural development, distribution and perception instead of just the commercial interests of content industries.
