Anne Poor, Resident Artist Lecture 1966

Painter Anne Poor lectures on what inspires an individual to create art and what teachers have to contribute to that process, based on her own search to produce a “modern” art. The slides she shows are an eclectic collection of what she was able to gather on short notice. They include some very early work from Italy and Greece, most notably portraits of children. In general the commentary on the slides is of a descriptive nature with some autobiographical anecdotes. Later slides show work done by the artist in Russia during a trip there the year prior to the lecture, with some cultural information included. The final portion of the talk includes slides of a broad spectrum of drawings and paintings borrowed from Colby College which the speaker thought might be of general interest; most of these are identified at best with the name of the artist.
