Anne Carson, Paul Mellon Distinguished Fellow Lecture 2004

In this lecture, critically acclaimed writer Anne Carson gives a reading to Skowhegan participants of her work. Throughout her reading and lecture, Carson references many different philosophers, philosophers, writers and artists. Some of them include: Immanuel Kant, Shakespeare, Homer Elizabeth Bishop, Aristotle, and Keats to name a few. Carson also talks in length of Virginia Woolf, making multiple references to her book To the lighthouse, using it as an entry point to explore themes of the supernatural, sensuality, mythology and death among all these writers.
