Anissa Mack, Resident Artist Lecture 2011

Anissa Mack gives a lecture at Skowhegan showing a series of slides in her work that compromises photographs, sculptures, installations, and performance. Rooted in history, cultural myths and idea of repetition, Mack describes her work as creating relationships between imaginary vs real experiences, and how we seek to create memories through objects. Mack is also interested in the viewer through the ways in which people can test out how images work upon us and how we manipulate these images. Mack is also interested in the hierarchies between the makers of craft and art, due to the ways in which in craft makers are rendered invisible. For Mack, this invisibility has allowed her to be in dialogue with the anonymous.
