Alix Pearlstein, Resident Artist Lecture 2004

Alex Pearlstein talks about her interdisciplinary practice rooted in modern dance, choreography, and collaboration. Pearlstein talks about her interests in Bruce Weber’s 1990s Calvin Klein photograph campaigns, which allowed her to start exploring abstracted narrative dramas. This exploration has led to Pearlstein being concerned with the psychology and tensions of relationships, group dynamics and different social constructs. Pearlstein tells the participants that she reads her work somewhere between theatre and cinema. This reading allows Pearlstein to remove the constructs of time and concentrate on the psychology of her work, the importance of collaboration with other actors, and dismantling the fourth wall.
