Alex Katz

Alex Katz gives an in-depth lecture talking about his painting practice. Katz begins the lecture by reflecting on the paintings he has done, staying that for him it is an aesthetic reflection of a particular moment or a state of life that he seeks to create. Katz engages with shadows as a way to allow him to understand perspective, deep space and build representational and abstract motifs in his work. Katz also speaks about the brushstroke in his work being a form that doesn’t always have to be seen and the kind of energy that creates. Katz ends his lecture stating that being a successful painter and artist requires an enormous amount of ego, an enormous amount of skill, and the ability to be anti-social.
