Agnes Mongan, Special Lecture 1970
Abstract
In a lecture held in conjunction with the 25th anniversary exhibition of drawings by faculty, visiting artists and alumni of the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture at the Colby College Museum, the speaker discusses the American drawing tradition, using many examples from nearly two centuries of American art to illustrate what she perceives to be the key characteristics of American drawing which distinguishes it from that of other nationalities, most notably its simplicity and directness, romantic and realist qualities, and highly personal nature.
