Ahmet Ögüt, Visiting Artist Lecture 2023

Ahmet Öğüt gives a lecture at Skowhegan where he talks about his interdisciplinary approach to making art which spans sculpture, painting, performance, collaboration, site specificity, drawing, video, text, and social practice. Öğüt talks about his commitment to collaboration in order to explore themes of intervention, humour, and integrity, which he stresses are incredibly important for both artists and art institutions to have. Öğüt talks about the importance of always questioning oneself and how that allows people to continue developing sincerity and integrity as artists. Öğüt stresses that if artists and institutions don’t have these qualities within themselves, they will collapse.
