Dave Hardy, Resident Artist Lecture 2018

Abstract

Through engaging with sculpture, site-specificity, and installation, Dave Hardy’s practice speaks on ideas around family histories, ideas around moving, and the possibility of bringing art to people through engaging with local communities. For Harris, thinking about structure is also important, giving the artist the chance to reflect on objects that are tenuous and the tenuousness of material (foams, glass, metal). Hardy also reflects on his time as a participant at Skowhegan, and how that experience allowed him to develop his interests in labour, craft, and work, leading him to think about what it truly means to be an artist.
