Sarah McEneaney, Resident Artist Lecture 2005

Abstract

Sarah McEneaney gives a lecture at Skowhegan talking about her painting practice. For McEneaney, this practice is rooted in ideas of narrative, trauma alleviation, autobiography, and creative non fiction. Mceneaney also explores the roles observation, photography, and imagination play in constructing her paintings. McEneaney talks about the importance residencies have played for her as an artist and formally making the switch in her paintings from oil, to acrylic, to finally egg tempera. McEneaney ends her talk reflecting on her new interests which explore her relationship to water, baptism, cleansing, and aging.
