Elaine Reichek, Resident Artist Lecture 2004
Abstract
Interdisciplinary artist Elaine Reichek gives a lecture talking about her practicing spanning painting, drawing and textiles. Reicheck talks about her current method of working which is making embroideries on linen. Recheck mentions how she is interested in expanding the traditions of textiles so they can hold the ideas she is interested in. Reichek also talks about her explorations in knitting, hand-painting found photographs, and creating installations. For Reichek, designing embroidery by using the computer sometimes also allows her to do prep work when she makes her textiles. Reichek works with image, text, and appropriation, borrowing and stealing from many themes. Reichek ends her lecture focusing on the current issues of subject matter she is drawing from; the history of painting and embroidering mythical and historical scenes: the tower of Babel and 19th century painting.
