Thérèse Oulton, Resident Artist Lecture 1993
Abstract
Characterizing her style as neither abstract nor representational, but, rather, as “shreds of memory,” British painter, Thérèse Oulton calls painting “an art of subterfuge… avoidance and denial.” Oulton chronicles the evolution and changes in her subject matter from the mineral to the bodily to “constellar” kinds of random infinities. Titles, to which the author attaches significance as clues for understanding her work, are provided.
