Grace Hartigan, Visiting Artist Lecture 1990
Abstract
Painter Grace Hartigan reflects in a very personal way on a fifty-year career as an artist, looking back to her introduction to the New York art world when she was just starting out, during World War II, a time she refers to as purer, in that there was a true community of artists, with little competition for money or fame, and few galleries. The slides shown cover the span of her work chronologically and are accompanied by additional artistic, personal, cultural and social information and anecdotes, as well as commentary on the materials and methods relevant to the works themselves.
