Howardena Pindell, Resident Artist Lecture 1980
Abstract
African American artist Howardena Pindell shows slides of her work, commenting on her experiments with various materials and techniques like drawing on acetate, hole-punch dots, scent in painting, and paper embedded in paint. She notes that she has progressed over time from work which she characterizes as emotionally detached and unrelated to her personal experience, to incorporating emotional, political and social content. She discusses moving away from object-making towards other art forms. The recording is incomplete.
