Skowhegan concludes 75th Anniversary Celebrations with Benefit Dinner
New York, NY – [March 11, 2022] – Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture, one of the country’s foremost educational experiences for artists, concludes its series of 75th Anniversary celebrations with a Benefit Dinner on Monday, April 4 to be held at the Rainbow Room.
The Dinner will begin with cocktails at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. and include a festive toast to Ann L. Gund, Chair, Board of Trustees (1998–2022) for her exceptional service to Skowhegan. Special guests joining the toast will include Matthew Teitelbaum, Ann and Graham Gund Director of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and Skowhegan alum David Antonio Cruz (A '06, '21). The evening is hosted by 75th Anniversary Campaign Co-Chairs, Eleanor Acquavella, Donald Moffett (F '04) and Paula J. Volent, as well as Board President Alan Wanzenberg, and longtime Governor Howardena Pindell (F '80). Proceeds from the dinner support Skowhegan's program and ensure that it remains a singular experience for the next generation of artists.
The Dinner caps a series of celebratory initiatives that took place in 2021 to mark Skowhegan's 75th year that included an outdoor Block Party festival featuring performances and installations by alumni artists, special limited edition artworks by Christina Quarles (A '16) and Rodrigo Valenzuela (A '13), and special alumni residencies on the Maine campus. Skowhegan also inaugurated new buildings built during Covid including the Gund Dining Hall, the David C. Driskell Participant House, the Moffett/Gober Sculpture Work Pavilion, and the Frank Moore Studio. These projects are part of a multi-year campus plan made possible through the 75th Anniversary Capital Campaign, a $20M initiative that is 90% complete. The celebrations honor Skowhegan’s long history and lasting impact as an art school, institution, and community, and ensure its future in engaging the next generation of artists around the evolving nature of artmaking.
