New York, NY– [August 9, 2023] – Ballroom Marfa and Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture are thrilled to announce the release of a limited edition print by Berlin-based artist Donna Huanca. The edition will launch at The Armory Show on September 6, 2023 and 100% of the proceeds will support both organizations. The work will be exhibited at Booth N8 at the Javits Center and virtually on The Armory Show’s Online Viewing Room.

Drawing inspiration from her exploration of the human body, its relationship with space, and the interplay of identity and perception, Donna Huanca is known for her immersive installations and performances. In collaboration with the artist, the limited edition artwork is presented by Ballroom Marfa, an internationally-recognized contemporary art museum and residency in Marfa, Texas, and Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture, the celebrated summer art school dedicated to nurturing emerging visual artists through mentorship and peer-to-peer exchange. The collaboration represents an exciting partnership between two organizations committed to artists who push the boundaries of contemporary art making. Huanca was a resident at Skowhegan in 2006, and presented commissioned works incorporating paintings, sculptures, video, scent and sound at Ballroom in 2020.

Huanca has two forthcoming solo exhibitions opening in New York in the fall of 2023: October at Faurschou Museum and November at Sean Kelly Gallery.

Alongside the launch of Donna Huanca’s work, Skowhegan will present works by internationally recognized alumni and faculty of the program including Derrick Adams (A ’02, F ‘13), Diana Al Hadid (A ‘07), Torkwase Dyson (F ‘17), Alex Katz (A ’49, ‘50, F ’60, ‘63-64, ‘67, ‘71, ‘75, ‘95), Odili Donald Odita (F ‘15), and Chris Ofili (F ‘11). Skowhegan editions support the school’s mission and program, including its need-blind admission program and the scholarships provided to over 95% of participating artists.

Edition sales support Ballroom's programs, commissions, and residency that are both site specific and inspired.
