Skowhegan specially commissioned works by ten Skowhegan artists at Frieze New York 2019

Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture is thrilled to announce it will feature exclusive prints and artwork by Skowhegan alumni and faculty as a part of Frieze New York. The works will be shown at Booth D4 at The Shed and virtually on Frieze's Online Viewing Room.

This year, Skowhegan will launch two new print editions as a part of its 75th Anniversary: a photopolymer gravure by Rodrigo Valenzuela (A '13) entitled Afterwork #2 (2021) produced in collaboration with Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE); and in partnership with Artspace & Phaidon, a print by Christina Quarles (A '16) of a no-longer extant fresco created during her time as a participant at Skowhegan. Entitled Magic Hour (2016/2021), sales from this edition will benefit the summer program in honor of Skowhegan alumnus and Trustee David Beitzel (1958–2019) and Darren Walker. The new prints will be on display at Frieze New York alongside works by artists Derrick Adams (A '02, F '13), Diana Al-Hadid (A '07), Josef Albers, Torkwase Dyson (F '17), Kiki Smith (F '93), and Kate Shepherd (A '90).

In addition, Skowhegan will feature limited edition prints and posters by Alex Katz (A '49, '50, F '60, '63-64, '67, '71, '75, '95), Ann Hamilton (F '91, '93), Chris Ofili (F '11), and Carmen Winant (A '10) on Frieze's Online Viewing Room.
