“~~ if I had to tell you about the nine weeks in Skowhegan in just one hour ~ I’d start with a love radio from the wishing well ~~ when everyone laid on blankets ~ and listened to each others heartbreak stories ~ sounds of crushing ~ through the little radios~~ and the moon went up ~ and there was so much love ~~ “
Well Radio was a micro-FM radio station operating from a well on Skowhegan grounds during the 2025 summer program. Reviving the well’s role as a site of gathering and gossip, it hosted whispers, readings, improvised songs, and collective listening weekly. Its short range and fragile signal emphasized proximity, attentiveness, and intimacy.
As part of Well Radio, Wishing Well was a participatory radio work I organized with Lara Castro Lema. Over a period of nine weeks, we invited stories of unrequited love from the Skowhegan community, transformed them into sounds, and broadcast them in a one-night event at the old spring well. Sixty people gathered on blankets in the nearby field, listening together in the spirit of shared romance.

Abstract
Well Radio was a micro-FM radio station during the 2025 summer program. Wishing Well was a project organized by Lara Castro Lema and Tinja Ruusuvuori as part of the radio station, later translated into a sound piece for The Library by Tinja Ruusuvuori.
