Joan Jonas, Visiting Artist Lecture 2006

Abstract

Artist Joan Jonas shows examples of her film, performance, and video art, and talks about the inspiration she draws from folk art, fine art, and literature, as well as the formal and artistic elements that are of interest to her. Following the lecture, Jonas answers questions about gender-based imagery; the historical role of narcissism; her daily studio practice; her use of certain formal elements in her work; the relationship of her style of performance to theater arts; and the work of Pina Bausch, Tadeusz Kantor and Robert Wilson.
